Reflection on e-portfolio

For my assignment, e-portfolio, I really like it. This is because I really love to do things related to virtual world. Presently, I already have a blog, but it is a personal blog, thus, having to create a new educational blog is an interesting thing that I can do. This is because, an educational blog and a personal blog is two different things especially when it comes to the content. An educational blog prefer a more academic content whilst a personal blog is more to write about myself.

Other than that, by doing en educational blog I can learn new things and also recall about how to use a blog template. As I already forgot how to use a blog template. Besides, the educational blog is also another interactive way to communicate with other friends by linking their site to mine and vice versa.

From my walking on others blog, I get to know about many new things. In addition, I also can do a check list by looking at others blog and make sure whether my blog have the assigned job or not.

However, sometimes I cannot update my blog frequently  because of my poor time management. So, my blog does not have very much entries compared to other’s. I hope I’ll update my educational blog before this even I’ve already finish studying. Here are the figure for my blogs.

Reflection on Data Logging

In doing data logging, at first I think that I don’t know what I should do, how will I do, what do I have to do. However, after class I’ve been briefed about data logging better during lecture. For me, practicing and applying data logging in  school is an excellent idea. This is because, data logging helps the students to understand better about the experiment.

Besides, it also helps the students to conduct the experiment simpler where they only need to set up the important equipment, whilst the calculation and graphing are did by the software. This will make the students to feel enlighten and less burden, thus making they attracted to do the works related to experiment and science better. Other than that, I feel that this data logging is really helpful because it is time savvy, especially to teachers whom are pressured by superior to finish the syllabus in teaching.

For me, the team I have in doing this assignment is really helpful. They help me to figure what I don’t know. They back me up when I have something that I missed and messed up in finishing the work. Other than that, I feel that by doing this assignment, it helps me to figure about the experiment I chose better.

My group have chose the title ‘The effect of salt on the rate of corrosion’. We are conducting experiment to test the salt reaction towards corrosion over time. Here are the set up equipment we use in the experiment, 

Reflection on STELLA software

In doing the report for STELLA software, I feel that it is more difficult compared to other previous assignment. This is because, for this assignment, I need to explore about the software first. I have to test the samples given and explore all the icons, arrows and instruction given in the software. Then, later I need to write a report about the software; how the simulation operate, how does the buttons work, which are the best(using real model or using simulation), which buttons work for which function, and many more. 

Other than that, I also need to write about the how the simulation affect students and how it motivates students to learn more. In the report, I need to write about what are the reasons for this. Then, I have to connect and figure what are the relation between the simulation and the students motivation. Other than that, I also need to find how does it increase the students motivation and does it motivate extrinsically or intrinsically. 

For me, in doing the STELLA software assignment, I found it to be easy after I have downloaded the  software and figure it by myself. I also think that this software is really helping in doing the simulation because the results are gained in many forms, so I have bigger choice in writing the report.

Reflection on Smart School

The second assignment is doing a report on Smart School(SS) in Malaysia.

                In 1996, Malaysia identified ICT as one of the key foundation for its projected transtition from a production based economy to a knowledge based economy by 2020. The Smart Schools initiative is one of the flagship application that are part of Malaysia’a Multimedia Super Corridor(MSC) project. As a senior officer from the Ministry of Education, prepare a presentation to a group of science teachers from Indonesia who are interested to know about the Smart School initiative, focusing on the teaching component and the use of technology as enablers contained in the Smart School concept. You also need to provide an overview of the progress mode so far and challenges faced since the inception of Smart School in Malaysia.

For this assignment, we need to submit a ten pages report which is quiet easy for me. This is because, we split the works into three and combine it later. However, we still need to master all about the SS , this is because, we need to present it in lab session later.

In order to perform well, we need to master and know about each part of the SS to convey an efficient presentation. Other than that, while doing the assignment, we get to know about SS better. Before this, we only listen from what other people say and from surface reading on the newspaper.

In addition, knowing about SS really brings me great knowledge where I can explain to others about SS better with an accurate facts. During finishing this assignment, we did not meet much difficulties and are able to finish it in time.  

Reflection on PBL

PBL is the problem based learning where the students are given scenario or problems and they need to solve it using FILA chart. The FILA chart consist of facts, ideas, learning issues and actions. We were given task on PBL with the situation as this;

ICT applications have become an important part of teaching and learning. Ministry of Education has invested huge effect in terms of funding and training to equip teachers and students with ICT skills. In your opinion, what are the issues and challenges in integrating ICT in teaching and learning in our Malaysian Schools?

For me, doing PBL is not a strange thing for me because I’ve been introduced about PBL previously during my semester 1 by other lecturer. Then, after that, the lecturers for my minor keep giving us situation by using PBL scenario, so, I always do it but with different situation.

For this course, I think the PBL scenario is a bit different where we need to find the content that is more on people’s reaction while before this, we only need to find the content that is more factual. However, doing the PBL for this course has made me know more about the scenario given.

In finding the learning issues for this scenario, it is not that hard because the points are accessible on the net. Other than that, I did some discussion with my friends about this scenario and we are able to come out with few actions that can be taken in responses to this scenario.

For me, doing PBL in classes is beneficial because it can produce many ideas and solutions related to the scenario. Yet, sometimes, it need extra time in order to finish doing the assigned job because it require some time to finish the task.

It's been long :)

Hi, it's been long. Today is the 20th of November, the 10th week of lecture, it is almost the end of the semester. We are in the middle of finishing and submitting all those assignments, pray the best for us (^_^)

Data Logging

During lecture, I learnt about data logging. It is associated with computer, data logger and sensor. Computer in this term is the software to utilize the software. While, data logger is an electronic instrument that records measurements over time. The readings are then transferred to PC. Lastly, sensor is an instrument to convert physical quantity into electrical signal. 

1. The advantages are :  
• Better understanding of scientific experimentation.
• More collegial collaboration opportunities.
• Greater interest in practical work. 
• Enhanced computer literacy.
• Better understanding of science concept.    
• Better graphing skills. 
• Opportunities for interdisciplinary projects.
• New innovative experiments possible. 
2. The disadvantages are :
• Unlike-able with computer system.
• Students can't relate science concepts and theory.
• Increase work load of teachers. 
• Reduce practice of graphing skills. 
• Loss of conventional methods of data collection. 

Then, I learnt about phases in learning :

What is ICT?

What is ICT? It is Information and Communication Technology in Science. This is one of the major course I took in my study in Semester 5.  

During first class, I learnt about ICT, what are the effects, what are the advantages, what are the relation between teachers and ICT.

1. The effects in education are :
• The capacity to present ideas are dynamically.
• The feedback are fast and quick.
• The capacity to present information is easily changed.
2. The advantages are :
• Time-save
• 5% learning.
• 1% time spent to make document.
• 95% learning time in analyzing.
• 53% learning time.
• 45% time spent to record data.
• 2% time left for students. 
3. Relation between teachers and ICT  are :
• Need to aware of the ICT applications.
• Can recognise the potential of ICT for supporting and enhancing in classroom. 
• Become familiar in using ICT.
• Apply the use of ICT in classroom.
